Set I: Sometimes There's Wine*, TEWDACYATM, Built for Zeal, Tenfold%, Get Me with Fuji, Tinderbox
Set II: The Lockless Door# > The Lucky Dragon^, Joe Higley, Before You Were Born, Dogs on Bikes
Encore: Imagine!, Sorry
Notes: Ethan Fry. * New song. % (Brad quotes Mr. P.C.) # a Robert Frost poem, set to music by Brad ^ aka "Squeezy Toe" or "Esquisito" ! John Lennon cover. First Time Played. The sound was pretty boomy, but the crowd was nicer, and the room felt like a venue for music, and not for misery. The Earth Will Disseminate is incredible. They played it in Pittsburgh last they were there, and it blew me away, though I didn't know it's name. What I wrote in my set list then was "Awesome!!!", and it's still true. Tenfold remains strong, and I think the Coltrane licks came from the day's listening. Fuji is still surprisingly interesting for as silly as it seems to be, and Tinderbox is a powerhouse. I hadn't actually heard it live until last night, and it has risen from 'alright' to "Holy Shit!". Sam seemed to recognize the Lockless Door, though Brad later told me it was a first time played. Lucky Toe was a nice treat, and I didn't know they remembered Joe Higley, it's been so long. Dogs was more mellow than the absolute all-out throw-DOWN that I remember it as (see late 1999). I guess they rehearsed Imagine just a few days ago, and pulled it out. Talk about a crowd pleaser. Marc (and Brad?) played the melody, and the crowd sang the lyrics (as much as we all remembered). Someone told me this theory that Marc always calls Sorry when he feels like he blew it somewhere. Like he's really apologizing. If he did blow it, it wasn't while I was looking.

[Ethan Fry - Sun Mar 23 at 21:13] Andrew's lesson of the week - "Don't play djun djuns the night before a show." Apparently he went nuts with a friend of his and destroyed his right hand on Thursday. I challenge anyone to find a spot where he sounds bad, despite his claims that his hand went soft.

Notes: $ Contains lyrics "I only want to be with you". ^ Brad on electric sitar/guitar. #Ruskin Vaughan on percussion. ? I'm not sure, but I am sure that he greatly added to every song he jammed on. **This was a happy tune that featured Andrew playing melodic percussion on that new plastic pipe apparatus he's had at recent shows. He used (what were apparently) Sam Leonard's old flip flops as drum sticks. It was quite a sight. ^^Led Zeppelin covers, instrumental. ##Before the E:, roadmanager Tim brought out an old TV with the word "Obey" spray-painted on it. Brad used it as a stool during the main part of the song but during the outtro he grabbed a safety mask and sledgehammer and demolished it. It was a rather entertaining (but somewhat frightening) sight. [ Chris Knott - drteeth2z at aol.com> - April 20, 2003 ]

BJ's wholesale store really dug The Slip and asked them to write a jingle for the store, so they did, and BJ's didn't want it. [ Luke Bowden, kosta - kosta at ecomail.org - May 26, 2003 ]; This was a one set show. Encore: B.J.'s theme, Sorry > With or Without You
Notes: ~ First time played a currently untitled airing was not anticipated by Brad. First or prominent lyric is .today is the day of my death. eerily reminiscent of a sentiment expressed by a testicular cancer stricken headbanger (Dean) in the Canadian film FUBAR (fucked up beyond all recognition) which this reviewer saw that afternoon before hitting the road to Kingston. In the scene in question the supposed documentary filmmaker (Ferris) is dragged along on a camping trip/binge in exchange for Dean having sought medical help for his cancer, after Ferris peters off into the Alberta night Dean and Terry are up drinking Pilsner (a low grade stock beer common in the West of Canada particularly Alberta) at which point Dean opens up with what turns out to be a very profound idea. The sentiment "from the mouths of babes" is about how every year a day goes buy which is in effect the anniversary of your death. $ Brad was bummed about this rendition, was on the Strat, always "challenging". ^ "for those kids" (Rhode Island, Get The Fuck Out!).

"BAM impersonators" -- At the beginning of the show (before set one), Sam Leonard, John ??? and Tim Lanterman (SJT) came out dressed as Brad, Marc and Andrew (respectively--beards, clothing, etc.). The lights were dim, so folks didn't notice. Many of the long-time Slip fans were fooled by this point, and SJT played Honey Melon! extremely ("surprisingly") well, catching the audience off-guard. The Slip then appeared and began posing, which cracked up the audience. Before Yellow Med., Brad said they had been playing a lot of "new songs" and that they were going to play an older one. Tim came out during Happy Snails and played the maracas while Andrew played the PVC pipes. During The Slip's 'Honey Melon' E:, SJT came out on stage and did their version of The Slip's posing from earlier. [Cleantone, unknown, Sammy, Phrazz - July 26, 2003 at 15:04 - 19:00 ] % new vocal tune in the middle? [BRAD BARR: ^ I just wanted to let you guys know, the song that came out at the end of Sorry that night, the one you thought might have been by Built to Spill, is a song I wrote years ago for my Uncle Ted, who passed away("As a token of my appreciation/so you can verify/that nothing in this life you did in vein/to that I'll testify........"). I call it "In Life You Were an Ocean(In Death You Are the Rain)". For the record, the only BTS songs we've played have been "Else", "Carry The Zero"(not to be confused with "The Zeroes", aka "Children of December", aka "Children of December", aka "Birthdays"), and a slight tease of( I forget the name)"We're special in other ways", at the acoustic show at Helsinki, also at the end of Sorry. Set I: ???, ???> Mr. Meowskers, ?country blues (acoustic) eastern-sounding?, Children of December, If One of Us Should Fall, (Andrew on PVC pipes [guest on shakers]), Dogs on Bikes> MC (into Soulive Set)
Notes: They played a song that Brad said they had only played two previous times...the lyrics talked about the rain alot of the time. They then played a "country blues" song that was dripping of Delta Blues and New Orleans. Both of these songs were done on an acoustic six-string guitar...with Brad ripping some eastern sounding riffs. I believe they played the song Children of December...great song with Brad getting some nice sounds out of the sunburst. If One of Us Should Fall was played with Andrew playing some off-kilter beats that somehow blended perfectly with Brad and Marc. The following song had Andrew playing some sort of hand percussion with what looked like flip-flops (my eyes are horrible) and with someone sitting in with two shakers. Whoever was playing the shakers did a fantastic job of playing off Andrew's beats....best song of the night IMO. The band ended the set with a quick warped version of Dogs on Bikes with someone MC'ing to give a nice segue into the Soulive set. [Cecil Thomas - August 03, 2003; Greg - 12/14/2003]
